Audio Visual Tips and Tricks for AV Technicians.
PowerPoint Part 4
I'm tackling the topic of PowerPoint in various short videos. I'm doing them in reverse order, the core things an AV Tech needs to know, things we do almost every event. Then gradually drilling down to PPT 101 -- the basics.

A Review of PTZ Cameras from Angekiss
Переглядів 623 місяці тому
Angikiss Technology from Hong Kong recently sent me two Sabre 4k PTZ cameras to review and try out. This is my first product review of something I didn't buy myself. Sorry for the long video, but I trimmed it down and will be making a more technical video or two in the future.

My 1st comment, i'm waiting for your knowledge sharing videos Sir.
Waiting more from india
Thanks sir I need more information about av ❤
Thank you for uploading these videos, they're very helpful!
GREAT KEEP IT UP SIR
nice❤
Hi! I am new to AV field and I doesn't have much experience either. could you please advise on some free online course which I can do to increase my knowledge.
I purchas 2but not working
They are pretty foolproof. Plug into your HDMI jack. Right click on your desktop and choose display settings. You should see it listed there. Using a program like OBS Studio you can add a display source and it will show up there. Remember the first time you use it it will be 4k resolution. In your display settings in windows you can change the reduction.
Still did not show your camera working in Zoom. When I tried this and enable my camera in Zoom it does not work. And when doing an interview you cannot "attend" as you say.
I believe your comment says you can't get the camera to work in ZOOM, but you can see the camera in OBS. You can't use a CAMERA/VIDEO CAPTURE twice. If the camera is already in use then Zoom can't capture it. If you use OBS Virtual Camera then you can set ZOOM's camera to the virtual camera and you get OBS's program out. Hope that helps.

Thank you so much, Paul. I am going to have an AV interview this week.
As an electrician can I become av technician without knowledge of IT
Good day. Thanks for your question. An electrician is great (cuz you know how electricity works) but you need to be competent with technology (computers, projectors, audio mixers, microphones, speakers, etc.). ANd to do the show tech role you also need to be able to work with people (the conveners are usually highly stressed). All the best with your future.
Am ugandan by nationality currently working in UAE Abu Dhabi how can I acquire this knowledge
Still relevant in 2024 👍🏾
What i should study in university for AV system Electronic or what else?
Thank you Paul for taking the time to pass on your knowledge and findings on AV technology! Much appreciated God Bless!
you put vs in the title as if you were going to compare the two, as rivaling options. instead you gave two half assed installation guides and gave a very brief overview of what the programs do.
Thanks for your feedback. In 2024 I’m going to start adding more meat to my videos. Related to NDI I’ve had the chance to work with it more and I think I’ll have a much more valuable video this year. Thank you.
after a little digging, it appears as though SRT is superior. @@AVTechnician
Good info. Thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Such a great video thank you so much. But why is there water dripping in the backround noise? 😅💧
I've heard comments about the rain dripping before. The room I was in had a sun roof and I just betcha it was raining that day. I didn't hear it when editing so didn't have to redo the recording.
@@AVTechnician yeah all good. I was also wearing headphones 🎧 that’s why it was quite audible for me. It’s a great video and all is spot on. Also the one you made in 2023, everything I can relate to. 😁👏
In fact, I would like OBS itself to create a virtual monitor with the output of what will be presented so that when we use the screen sharing function of chat applications such as Skype, Meet, Zoom, Teams, etc., I choose the output of this virtual monitor. which is the content of OBS, just as today there is a virtual webcam option.
Thank you for your comment. I’m doing an event today using my dummy monitor. Today’s event needed something a bit different for on the screen for the audience so I’m using obs to project a full screen of the content to the dummy monitor. Thanks for pushing me to explore more opportunities to use this technology.
In school for audio engineering currently I have completed basic audio courses like principles of sound studio production music theory and signal processing. I take audio post productionnext semester and have 13 years experience producing music in DAW. Trying to assess my current skill level and figure out the best job I can land right now. any suggestions or tips are well appreciated. Thank you fro this great video.
Paul, your videos are fantastic and extremely educational. The wisdom you are sharing here in invaluable. Please keep them coming!

Instead of an ad for this hardware, how about show how to actually use it.
Great idea, hope I can make another one soon
Thanks
Great video I like Teleport and Beam but I am just so use to NDI Plugin its hard to switch
NDI, when I was doing that video, was still not familiar to me. Since that time I've become a fan of NDI. Look for more videos from me in the future about NDI. Thanks
Thank you sir for this content im learn a lot. God bless
Make next video on hdmi dummy tell all process in obs as well and also provide sample recording on hd monitor or laptop to fhd dummy monitor with the help of obs
Oops. I guess I was braggin about the device so much I forgot to show it in use. Let me see what I can do soon about a video showing it's uses.
No help you talk toooo much about everything else but A/V
Truth lmao. Covid tard
Thanks. I know sometimes I ramble a bit, but I try to stay on topic for the video. I'm going to be concentrating between "being an AV Tech" and "AV tools and skills" with future videos. Thanks
Thank you this helped so much
This is a great set up
We were at an event in Whistler and have 4 hours off in the afternoon. So I packed along the PTZ cameras and threw it all out in the ballroom to demonstrate. Some have criticized me for the mess of cables, but it was never intended to be a setup for the client's event (although we thought about adding it in as free add-in). Bu the time they came back into the room all the PTZ stuff was packed up and we were back to neat and clean.
Sir I need a job in this profession
Right now there's a critical shortage of people who actually know what they're doing. Many of the good show techs who were getting older chose to retire during the pandemic and just haven't returned. In Vancouver, BC Canada during the busy season the industry could absorb more than 100 more show techs, but right now, during the summer, we'll all on holidays cuz not work. Check out the AV companies in your area and see who's hiring.
So cool the PTZ controller has a video monitor built in 🎥👌
This one is HSILITY model. I can't find a website for them. They are still sold on Amazon and other AV shops. The built-in screen is great if you might not have a multiview setup. It's a tiny screen but it's just for reference as your panning/tilting/zooming.
Need to practice on cabling packup - over under 😂
Me or you? I've been doing professional AV for over 23 years and it's only been less than 10 years since I figured this out "correctly". I still have trouble with 100' XLR cables. Heavier cables (COAX, SDI, HDMI) are really challenging too.
Video idea - how to price out your services 😊🙏
90% of my work is as a freelancer so I have a my hourly rate and the AV company pays that rate. I put my time on-site into a timesheet and they pay every two weeks. But I often do my own clients and almost exclusivly I do flat-rate labour, even when I hire freelancers. Most of my private clients are low-budget (non-profit usually) so they like to know going in what they costs are going to be. I usually look at the job, figure out how many days/hours I'll be working (including all the lead-up and planning) and bill for that. ALl the advance work is where many people fail in doing their estimates. Even the AV company I work with doesn't factor in the time we spend on email, telephone and planning the event with the client.
Would love to know the brand and model of the PTZ cameras you decided to invest in. 😊🙏 30x zoom lets goooo !! 🎉
The cameras are 1080p from SMTAV. Virtually identical to PTZ Optics cameras. Only thing they lack is NDI built-in, it's an add-on though. SMTAV were about 1/2 the price of the same models with PTZ Optics. Their website is still listing their products.
This channel is awesome !! Really learning a lot 😊 Keep them coming please. Thank you 🙏 😊
Thank you! Will do!
Can you give us tips and tricks for OBS STUDIO
Your wish is my command. I made 12 short videos about OBS Studio. Let me know if I missed anything that you think is relevant for an AV tech.
Love these videos, really been helpful since I’ve recently been getting back into the live business here in New York. The document you are thinking of for US tax return is the W-9 but still very close
Great to hear!
My Dream Job
Would you teach us about using PowerPoint and how to get it to the projectors?
Thats my next series of videos coming up soon.
@@AVTechnician 👍
Is there an email I can contact? I'm new to the industry and have a couple questions
You can message here.
@AV Technician cool. So I just started working as a General AV technician. Sp far they have me doing strike mainly. I'm learning new things everyday I work but where can I find more material to learn? Besides these videos, are there courses I can take? The guys on the job telle I cam get certified/specialize in certain areas, like LED Wall engineer, the audio tech, etc. Is there a list of certs or job specific courses I can look at? I'd like to find my niche and build up the skill set for it
Congratulations on your new job. I'm creating a video this week to discuss these questions. How to gain knowledge is a huge question. Check my video when it comes out his week about this.
@AV Technician thank you sir, and looking forward to the upload!
Can one thrive in this industry with no formal training of IT?
Yes you can. I’m an AV tech and have no formal IT training.
I really appricate u sir
precious information sir. Thanks
AV technician job is very hard and some time like labor also. Hope to see you one day in Canada.
Maybe one day!
Thanks for the precious information sir. I also install like this kind of project.
been working in live events for over a year now and the level of accuracy in this video is great. this also helped me articulate what ive been experiencing myself in this industry. the man knows what hes saying. 👍🏾
Glad it was helpful!
Amazing video..Please share interview question as well asked to av technician
What an interesting question. I'm not sure what the questions would be as I was hired by referral from a friend, and it was over 23 years ago!
Its very interting job
Good to see you again. Just one comment if you allow me. You may need to talk a little bit faster for better engagement. See the difference in the way of speaking between this video and the other one you did 6 years ago. In all cases, you are providing a great content. Thank you !
Thanks for the comment. You're not going to like my newest video about PTZ cameras. Completely unscripted. Lot's of poignant pauses. Thanks for your comment. Most of the time I have a script I'm following, the hardest part is I tend to ramble too.
@@AVTechnician i like your videos in all cases. Wish you all the best
